Author’s Bio
Valerie S. Armstrong was born in London, England to a middle class family. Her father was a professional musician and a staunch atheist with no family of his own, while her mother was one of nine children brought up in the Jewish faith. During World War II, she and her brother Arthur were evacuated to the countryside on four different occasions.
At the age of nineteen she immigrated to Canada with a close friend and settled in Toronto. A failed marriage a few months later resulted in a daughter and today she is the proud grandmother of two grandchildren.
Arthur left London to join her within seven months and her parents immigrated twelve years later. Both of her parents and her brother are now deceased.
In 1971, she was hired as an assistant in a one-man enterprise distributing printed forms to hospitals and nursing homes. Having an aptitude for accounting, when the company expanded, she was appointed Chief Financial Officer.
In 2007, she wrote her first novel, a fictionalized autobiography. Throughout her life, she maintained that she lacked creativity and often felt envious of her father and brother, who were both talented in music and art. However, her intrigue with language and the power of words eventually led her to discover her own creative ability once she began writing.
Now retired, she spends most mornings working on her latest novel and in her spare time she enjoys solving acrostic puzzles, reading, and knitting for the homeless.
